In 2013, we were approached by a prominent legal services firm who were seeking advice on issues with their existing legal accounting software. The software had become extremely outdated and the firm found that despite meeting their specific needs, the system would not be compatible with the latest Windows Server updates.
The latest versions of the accounting software were costly and required significant investment in new equipment to even run the system. They had expanded the software and added an expensive support contract, adding features that were irrelevant to our client. Upon researching alternative softwares, we found that this seemed to be the case for all providers across the board, so we had to put our heads together to find a solution.
CDS examined our client’s existing equipment and operational needs. We determined that while an update on the existing server and email systems was essential to improve functionality and reliability, any support requirements for the software were only related to resolving accounting issues and the software had otherwise remained stable.
With that, we consulted with our client and shared the good news. There was no need to continue to pay for software support and we had a solution that meant they could retain their existing system reliably and at a low cost. The firm was thrilled with our proposal and so we set to work.
We procured the necessary upgrades for their server and email systems, allowing us to install a “virtual machine” capable of hosting the existing accounting software, and ensuring it was backed up and securely accessible. Any issue could easily be resolved through simple data analysis and corrected by our team remotely. In addition, we performed a business-wide update on all of the firm’s operating systems to improve security and performance.
When we take on a client, we look at a great deal more than flash or function, we recognise that our success relies on the success of our clients, and their business wellbeing is as much a benefit to us as it is to them. That’s why we always put our client’s needs first. We could have used this opportunity to install costly equipment that would extend far beyond the clients needs, we’d have made a greater profit at the time. However, CDS was founded on the value of integrity and in the long run, upselling the client would have harmed their business.
