Crossing the Street - Bringing Wi-Fi where BT won't

We were approached by one of our clients, a large engineering firm, who had recently invested in a new building within their existing industrial estate. The new location was a mere 200m from their established office but for reasons unknown to literally everyone, BT were unable to install a line into the new building. The client was at a loss, so they came to us and asked us to apply some IT creativity to find a solution.

We installed some external Wi-Fi points - aptly named nanobeams - on both buildings and an internal Wi-Fi point in the new building, getting both offices online. This was the perfect solution only disrupted on one occasion when an articulated lorry was parked right in front of the nanobeam - resolved quickly with a polite word.

 

Fast forward a few years, and low and behold, BT arrives to install an internet line, at last. The company chose to expand the facilities at this time, installing external portacabins and renting some space to another company. CDS were called back in to upgrade their infrastructure, including new routers, 4G failover, and improved Wi-Fi coverage, we ran hardwired cables to the cabins and provided two isolated networks - one for our client and one for their renters.
