It’s Almost Curtains for Windows 10

Brace yourselves! Microsoft have announced that Windows 10 will reach its official end of life on October 14, 2025. After 10 long years, another beloved Windows OS will be making its way to the Microsoft graveyard, with the likes of Windows XP and Windows 7 (we don't talk about Vista or 8). It can be pretty daunting facing an upgrade, so if you’re yet to upgrade to Win11, now is the time to prepare.
Why Does EOL Matter?
EOL means the end of updates, patches, and support, which can lead to unexpected errors, leaving your PC vulnerable to malicious software, security threats, and performance issues. To keep up with Cyber Essentials and ensure your data is secure and your PC reliable, it's time to make the change!
Planning for Windows 11 or New Hardware
The simplest option is to simply update to Windows 11, packed with productivity features, performance enhancements, and a clean new interface. However, it's important to check your hardware as Windows 11 requires a higher spec than 10. You can check using PC Health Check from Microsoft, download it here and scan for your eligibility.
If your current PC fails the check, it might be time to consider upgrading your hardware. This can be a little daunting, especially if you've been running your current computer for nearly a decade. It's an investment but once you get the hang of your new machine, you'll notice Windows 11 does everything you need and more.
Getting Ready: Start Planning Today
October 2025 might sound far off, but with Windows 10 support ending, there’s no time like the present to start preparing. Review your options, take inventory of systems that will need upgrades, and plan ahead for smooth transitions. Waiting until the last minute may leave you scrambling to keep everything secure and running, so it’s best to have a proactive game plan.
